Case1: My green card attorney already kept me waiting while having no progress
at all since my first payment in July 2002! I gave her enough push and now I
am going to fire her. I already set up an appointment to meet with a new
attoney this saturday. But actually I am still not quite sure whether having a
attoney is the best way to handle my green card case.
Case2: All the companies I worked said they would sponsor my GC. First one I
had to contact the attorney through the secretary. Everytime I tried to let
secretary ask the process, there would be a long time waiting. From the time I
requested GC application till to my layoff, they even didn't file up the laber application, the time was more than 1 year.
The second company said they let the attorney who dealt my H-1B transfer do
my GC application, and gave me same answer every time I asked them. But after several months I decided to call the attorney directly,
found out he didn't even know he would do my GC. Then the company chose another attorney and
let me deal with him directly. Everytime I tried to call him I couldn't reach
him. No response to my messages too. At last I tried to call him everyday, and
he called my back and shouted at me said I bothered him. I think he is the
biggest jerkass I ever met. So one year passed I got laid off again, hadn't got the labor application filed just like before.
Then my wife got a job, she had to do GC herself. We chose a big firm in
Boston, having more than 10 immigration attorneys. They are expensive. But
they are doing somethings. We can reach them through phone, email(the two
attorneys before didn't have email). They reply our request very fast, in
general, they will reply the email within 30 minutes if the attorney is in
the office, and the chief attorney told us we can call her directly if the
assigned attorney is not available.
Since we first contacted them in the mid of October, they filed labor
application at the end of October, approved by Department of Labor at the
beginning of December. Then at the mid of Jan we filed I-140 and I-485.
My wife has a colleague chose another attorney in Cambridge last September, right now her labor havn't been filed up yet. This attorney we called when
we did our attorney shopping, his secretary said we had to arrange an
appointment if we want to know the detail and the prices, and the attorney wouldn't
discuss anything about our case before that........
